The Legends of Friendswood Golf Tournament began in 1990 when Mark Gill and Daren Taylor suggested a way for friends and relatives to gather for a day of fun. As the tournament grew, it became profitable and the founders decided to contribute to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in support of cancer research.

The Mike Doiron - Legends of Friendswood Organization is recognized as a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and has provided in excess of $433,000 in contributions to The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the Friendswood Independent School District.
